Brenda Lee Eager, standing at 5′ 5″, BEAUTIFUL, AND SHINING LIKE A STAR, amidst a sea of Normandie Casino’s win thirsty enthusiasts, her birthday party celebrating loved ones, and movie and thespian types, belted, crooned, and virtually, transported The Normandie Casino, to a realm of  “heavenly living musical waters of pleasure”. Eager, resounding  like a sweet chariot having landed and scooped up,mesmerizing,  as if words were hugs and kisses ,  all with her sultry, soulful, heart touching singing, celebrated her 65th birthday party,   in Gardena, CA last Sunday August 12, 2012, , and delivered them to a sweet, soft, safe, and delicious place, which could have made the promised land. jealous. It was a place that seemed like home.

In every story, the writer’s experiences permeates the landscape of the tale and The legendary singer, Eager, spun  a tale , within tales, as other tales were being woven, not only that night, but also  throughout California and the world. I  was honored to have been present to withness a tale of love and a tale which featured tantalizing singing, and heartfelt tributes to the birthday girl herself. Eager’s grandsons appeared on stage, gave an incredible rendition of the Jackson 5’s hit song, “I’ll Be There”, and upon being joined by their mom, not only shared the incredible impact that Eager has had on their lives, but also, even metamorphically and philosophically  saying that ‘God had written an incredible story of LOVE called Brenda Lee Eager–Grandma– and that they dearly loved her. In a world plagued by the frightening demise of the family, it was a touching love emitting event and, in my opinion, touched all, as their love was manifested purely, and  was genuine and ran, much like the images conjured up by the words of The Motown group,The Four Tops hit song  ,”Still Waters”, very deeply. Most importantly,  as I juxtapose and  associate my life experiences with music, The disco era’s moster hit group–a London based funk band known for such smash hits as  “Boogie Nights” ,Always and Forever” , “Too Hot to Handle”, and “The Groove Line”, from their 1978 album, “Central Heating”———- HeatWave’s song, “Star of A Story, came gusihing into my mind, filling up every nick, cranny, and  crack with an awesome combination of love and longing——-hoping not so much to be a star but to be appreciated at my 65th birthday by family, friends and fans——–as Eager was being loved. Star of a Story is a song that exudes  a dream-like state,  as it ‘s singer meanders in and out of idyllic states, and is drenched with love imagery. The singer states his love, and much like a junkie fixated on a drug, this opiate-like induced affection drills into one’s mind, that this fella has ‘got it bad’, and Benda Lee Eager’s audience,  at This Brandy Sanders’s, founder of The Kierrah Foundation, were present supporting their singing sensation friend, Eager said, ” I have known Brandy since we were 15 years old,   Brenda Lee Eager was the focal point of cupids arrow and the bulls eye was everyones’ hearts. She was THE STAR OF THE STORY.

Some stories are of sports; some stories are of life; Infact, some books, which are written by God, are called THE BOOK OF LIFE; The late great screenplay, producer, and screenwrite, and creator of the 60’s cult hit classic series, “The Twilight Zone”, Rod Serling, envisioned an episode, in which, typing sounds are heard throughout the entire scene and, at the end it becomes evident that the characters had been living out a typed out scenario whose existence breathed at the tip of typewriter keys, mandating that hteir existence belonged to the typist! Scary stuff or is it?

Eager, a legendary hit songwriter and songstress, in her own right, has collborated with such musical geniuses  as Jerry “The Ice Man” Butler, with whom she shared a top 10 hit, duting the 70’s  on BillBoard’s Hot 100 ;Aretha Franklin; Diana Ross; Smoky Robinson; and Stevie Wonder, and countless other musical guests, shared her story with celebrities——who  enjoyed tasty treats and drinks, alongside guests and fans, while watching an exciting and star-studded RED CARPET EVENT——-such as a prominent star of the 5 time golden globe winning 90’s cult favorite, “The X -Files” ; Ms. Bass from the 70’s R & B sensation, “The Friends of Distinction” ; “The Maestro”, a gifted songstylist-keyboardist of both the late great and controversial singer,  Gil Scott Heron, and “The J.B’s”, band of the late great James Brown’s hit making machine; and also humanitarian Brandy Sanders’s —-the facilitator of the party—-teenaged musical revue, “Nu-School”, which included the petite, pretty, talented and blonde teenaged signing sensation, Mahkenna Tyson, who will strut her stuff alongside a famous screen and music sensation on KNBSTV’s The Maurice Dwayne Smith Show on September 16, 2012 in Hollywood. And last but not least, buttressed by a very powerful media ensemble, which included Mollywood Hollywood; Cold Heat News’s writer, Maurice Dwayne Smith; Donald Carroway; Diana Ligon and “Big Mike”; and Guillermo Proano, Brenda Lee Eager made the event an unforgetable experience, as she shared intimate moments, and ordeals and joked, about her life’s experiences.

Consequently, not withstanding all of this event’s glorious and ample portions of fame and glitter, as Jackie DeShannon’s , 1965 hit single ,” What The World Needs Now Is Love” intonated  so sweetly, the message sent and the message also that also “tossed and flossed” all, leaving them  with a kinda fuzzy, happy- sweet- tooth –like-soul-satisfying- feeling WAS THAT LOVE IS THE STAR OF THIS STORY.

Brenda Lee Eager’s ‘s birthday party at Normandie Casino drenched all with love. Furthermore, as every great entertainer is capable of doing, Eager received and returned to the crowd, so much more love than she got.

Happy 65th Birthday Brenda Lee Eager. My present to you is as follows: “The Star of The Story” by HeatWave.

Hold me all through the night,                                   (Hold me through the night,)
“Stay ‘til the day is bright,                                             (light up my life, stay ‘til it’s bright)
“And Angel, don’t ever break the spell,                     (Angel be well, don’t break the spell)
“‘Cause you’re the star of a story                                 (‘Cause you’re the star of a story)
“I’ll always tell…”                                                             (I’ll always tell

I was born in Fountainbleu in Paris France to an army family. My father ,Ruben Smith, and my mother Nancy Smith, worked for the Army and as a school teacher in France, respectively. We are originally from the South. My father’s people from Misissippi and Alabama and my mom’s from South Carolina. I am an avid sports fan and I attended and played sports----football, wresting, and track----- at Bishop England High School, in Charleston, South Carolina; my mom chose both a Catholic high school and an elementary school, Immaculate Conception, for my sister and I. Initially, I wasted a lot of time in school pursuing sports and partying but nevertheless,I went to the College of Charleston, The University of South Carolina, where I majored in Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations, with a minor in Theatre and Speech. I finally graduated from The University of Redlands, in Redlands, CA with a degree in business management. I managed to get into SAG-AFTRA, mostly as an extra, but I have done an occasional speaking stint here and there—CD-ROMs, experimental and industrial films, and voice overs in radio. My most recent endeavor was playing a doctor on "Grey's Anatomy". I like horror, love, thrillers, and I like to read. Weightliftingand jogging are some of my hobbies also. Interestingly enough, my family prepared me for a life on the move, as I have been to every state in The USA except for Alaska and Hawaii. I have an older sister who chose the teaching profession and is doing quite fine. What was i like as a child? Well I tend to think that I existed and flourished within "a culture of hate"--------however South Carolina has ceased and desisted with both "The jim Crow Laws' and flying the Confederate Flag------------I witnessed "colored only" bathrooms, and was in establishments where the Klan showed up. I stayed at hotels where my family and I found pounds of raw CHITTERLINS---hogs guts----- at our doorstep!! But don't get me wrong, as despite these ugly truths about the South, I grew up with some very cool whites, mexicans, Filipino's and other races. But it is what it is. It has Metamorphosized into being a cultural and real estate melting pot, as many from other states are recently flocking there for the cheaper home prices, very stable, safer lifestyle and "bible belt" mentality, and affordable education. I too have Metamorphosized , as I am not the militant little athletic, and partying freak I used to be and have settled into writing for Cold Heat News and assisting We Care for Humanity with their charitable functions. Consequently, I am pretty much a normal army brat who has realized that life is what you make it and people and things are subject to change. So change with life and let by gones be by gones. My dad has since passed away, and my mom and sister and most of my cousins are still alive, but their positive, significant influence, along with the impact my elementary and high school friends have had on me continues on;infact, I believe, where it not for my childhood friends, my high school football Coach Jack Cantey and occasional teenage battles with my dad, I would have become a gang member! Thus my personal manifesto is, Live hard, party when it is time, and utilize both education, and Love for God, and know that FAMILY AND FRIENDS are most important; They're one's conduit for a viable and happy life. ALSO, A FRIEND IN NEED IS A FRIEND---NOT A "FAIR WEATHER"------INDEED.
