Dr. Gayla Kalp Jackson – Ms. Senior California is inspiring young and old alike; AGE IS A NUMBER!

Dr. Gayla Kalp Jackson – Ms. Senior California is inspiring young and old alike; AGE IS A NUMBER!  I was informed of the opportunity to interview DR. Jackson, a mature and stunning beauty queen, but what leapt out at me, more than anything else was her spirit, which seemed tried,, and honed and true; a beautiful beacon of light, both shining brightly and available to lead by example and lift up anyone that is intelligent enough to know that they are in the presence of greatness. “When some women reach the age of twenty-nine, thirty and beyond, some feel that their lives are over or that all that the future offers them is pangs of Obsolescence. “But I am here to say that’s rubbish, as a woman is meant to become more  beautiful in spirit, even if some of her physical beauty becomes blemished by age”, explained Dr. Gayla Kalp Jackson. Dr. Jackson went on to say that as a result of  raising kids, grandkids and at times, even husbands, a woman is to be regarded, if society has its value systems correctly aligned with reality, as both international and natural  treasures, and an impeccable force of nature”. I agreed whole heartedly, having known many incredible senior beauties in my time, including my mother. The Doctor and I tossed around names of beautiful seniors such as Lena Horne, Christie Brinkley, Pam Grier and others for a while, as we spoke long distance via our smart phones. I told her that I was always in awe of women and that all men know in their hearts how valuable a good woman is. In fact, I said, according to the Bible, in  Proverbs 31:10-31 “An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands. She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar.” I also said, in Proverbs 3:15, it is written that ” She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her.”  This tremendously talented beauty stated, ‘ My goal is to share with other women that we are never too old to have fun, encourage others and be leaders to women of all ages,’ SHE IS 67 YEARS YOUNG.

I’m not attempting to become the Reverend Billy Graham , but I am merely stating how I feel– Both using the Bible to reinforce my position and  my feelings. One can see that women are not, at the onset of menopause, or the cessation of menstruation, ready for the rocking chair or the recycling bin; In fact, if one were to look at Dr. Gayla Kalp Jackson – crowned Ms. Senior California 2014-2015 on August 23, 2014 in Westminster, CA,  having competed within the traditional events, except for the bathing suits, as other younger female beauty pageants mandate, she did however, excel via  grueling, “almost marathon like olympian-style-like competitions against the best of the best female seniors from around the United States–singing, reflecting on their personal mission statements,  wearing evening gowns, dancing,  amidst the traditional question and answer segments, etc.

Dr. Jackson said,  “sometimes one hasn’t lived until one has become a senior. I’m not only, deliciously busy, but I am also enjoying it tremendously,” gushed this multi-faceted beauty, a singing and dancing veteran of years of Vaudeville style entertainment—— The American Theater Company—and former entertainment partner of the 1970’s smash hit tv show, “Three’s Company”, the  late great comedian John Ritter.  Yes they say love is for the young but this is a story of life being loved more deeply and lived more passionately by the “Boomers. This female is booming loudly and the world can’t help but hear her roar!!

Dr. Gayla Kalp Jackson,  earner of two Masters Degrees in Education and Psychology and a Doctorate in Business Administration, is a member of Daughters of the America Revolution, Eastern Star, National Charity League, California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and the National Psychotherapy Association.  “I believe that we as humans are here to achieve but also to give back. I had  encountered some tribulations while rearing my daughter and it has, not only helped, but it has also, enhanced my understanding of how to more fully help other young and older adults as well. I mean what else would I be  doing  with all of this knowledge?. I feel that my purpose is to help troubled youths and adults and if they are not too disturbed, I feel that they are reachable and curable. Yet, unfortunately, there are some people that must be hospitalized for their own safety and also for the safety of others. In my work as a  psychotherapist, which is so very impactful  and so very  important to various police programs, such as  helping the gangbangers with the Glendale Police Department, The Ventura County Prison system’s program, so aptly named, ” restorative justice program”, and providing parenting classes for troubled individuals, I feel that I am in my natural habitat, not withstanding all of the hoopla over my beauty and my  artistic skills. Interestingly enough, I do have a book coming out soon, and with all my heart,  In addition to using it as an informative insightful and helping vehicle, as I feel I could really effectively help others with it, while shining brightly,  I would love to do a  Dr. Phil- like- tv show. Helping others and being of service is why I volunteer and provide pro bono–free- services to such organizations as the Ventura County Youth Authority, The Assistance League of Conejo Valley, and my alma mata, The University of Southern California Trojan Club,” said the beautuful grandmom.

Dr. Jackson has one bilogical daughter, three step daughters, and a grand daughter, along with three step grandchildren. Dr. Jackson , though she wouldn’t rule it out becoming a psychiatrist,  as she is constantly changing and adding on new skills as she said  “I am not ready for Obsolescence because  there are too many things that a talented woman like myself is capable of doing”; A veritable Florence Nightingale  and a theatrical and medicinal angel of mercy, Gayla said that the training would involve actually becoming a real-life-like-individual that knows how to cut and operate,  like a surgeon, as a psychiatrist is a medical doctor and that is not where her heart is at the moment. Being regared as  “null and void” mainly because of  my age, as opposed to being regarded as an asset is not one of my callings. I am not one to sit around. Nor am I ready to retire. I want to show older woman that there is no reason to lay down and die or be thrown away like “yesterday’s news”, because of your age. We are very valuable and I believe that our lifes’ experiences makes us a very valuable jewel!!!——- A very valuable person”, explained the brainy entertainer. Consequently, according to scientific documentation, and because  people are living longer and  becoming more physically and mentally nubile,  age is just a number!

I was born in Fountainbleu in Paris France to an army family. My father ,Ruben Smith, and my mother Nancy Smith, worked for the Army and as a school teacher in France, respectively. We are originally from the South. My father’s people from Misissippi and Alabama and my mom’s from South Carolina. I am an avid sports fan and I attended and played sports----football, wresting, and track----- at Bishop England High School, in Charleston, South Carolina; my mom chose both a Catholic high school and an elementary school, Immaculate Conception, for my sister and I. Initially, I wasted a lot of time in school pursuing sports and partying but nevertheless,I went to the College of Charleston, The University of South Carolina, where I majored in Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations, with a minor in Theatre and Speech. I finally graduated from The University of Redlands, in Redlands, CA with a degree in business management. I managed to get into SAG-AFTRA, mostly as an extra, but I have done an occasional speaking stint here and there—CD-ROMs, experimental and industrial films, and voice overs in radio. My most recent endeavor was playing a doctor on "Grey's Anatomy". I like horror, love, thrillers, and I like to read. Weightliftingand jogging are some of my hobbies also. Interestingly enough, my family prepared me for a life on the move, as I have been to every state in The USA except for Alaska and Hawaii. I have an older sister who chose the teaching profession and is doing quite fine. What was i like as a child? Well I tend to think that I existed and flourished within "a culture of hate"--------however South Carolina has ceased and desisted with both "The jim Crow Laws' and flying the Confederate Flag------------I witnessed "colored only" bathrooms, and was in establishments where the Klan showed up. I stayed at hotels where my family and I found pounds of raw CHITTERLINS---hogs guts----- at our doorstep!! But don't get me wrong, as despite these ugly truths about the South, I grew up with some very cool whites, mexicans, Filipino's and other races. But it is what it is. It has Metamorphosized into being a cultural and real estate melting pot, as many from other states are recently flocking there for the cheaper home prices, very stable, safer lifestyle and "bible belt" mentality, and affordable education. I too have Metamorphosized , as I am not the militant little athletic, and partying freak I used to be and have settled into writing for Cold Heat News and assisting We Care for Humanity with their charitable functions. Consequently, I am pretty much a normal army brat who has realized that life is what you make it and people and things are subject to change. So change with life and let by gones be by gones. My dad has since passed away, and my mom and sister and most of my cousins are still alive, but their positive, significant influence, along with the impact my elementary and high school friends have had on me continues on;infact, I believe, where it not for my childhood friends, my high school football Coach Jack Cantey and occasional teenage battles with my dad, I would have become a gang member! Thus my personal manifesto is, Live hard, party when it is time, and utilize both education, and Love for God, and know that FAMILY AND FRIENDS are most important; They're one's conduit for a viable and happy life. ALSO, A FRIEND IN NEED IS A FRIEND---NOT A "FAIR WEATHER"------INDEED.
