Edibles Magazine’s first ever cannabis edibles infusion expo event at Casa Vertigo was both entertaining and inspiring–CANNABIS MIND BLOWING, “MAGICAL MEDICINAL ELEMENT” CBD IN THE HOUSE!

With voting day 2016, precariously looming like a hot sword over their heads, Edibles List Magazine,  hosted their first ever Cannabis Infusion Edibles event, in which speakers such as Emmy nominated actor Eric Roberts, Elvy Mussika,  Bob Eschino, Maya Elisabeth, co-founder of OM, a cannabis benefits laden magazine for women,  Ed Rosenthal, Buck Angel—former porn star and female to male transgender,   ,  and ,   along with a legion of rather ambitious edibles vendors,   at  Casa Vertigo, at 1828 Oak street, October 23, 2016 in right around the corner from The  Los Angeles  Civic Center, in downtown Los Angeles. The festivities ended with an after party  featuring live music by Keaton Simon’s band,  Backbone.I must admit, images of Cheech and Chong’s, “Up in Smoke” comically drifted through my mind, as a predisposed survivor of the Sex-drugs and rock and roll era, having seen horrors and thrills of drug usage firsthand, a most immediate epiphany which thundered into my immediate sensations were that these vendors, and everyone working and in all attendance were not only professional but also most importantly were as serious with their cannabis mission as a heart attack—-This aint no joke and memorize the acronym CBD,  (Cannabidiol)!
I spoke to several spokespersons or owners of these futuristic medical cash cows,  such DR. Raw,  Sensei  Chew, Cheef Naturals Edibles, Making it Better Brands,  and Jelly Shamas—-these colorful jams were almost too pretty to eat—-, and  a 7 foot lad named Sequoia  and I realized that edibles can be fun, can make you high, but there is so much more to them than fun and games. There is a component, which the media doesn’t speak of, called CBD. It is the chief component in cannabis sativa–pot–that alleviates pain, discomfort and aids in a medicinally targeted life saving manner to terminally afflicted individuals. Their products ranged in differing levels of milligrams of THC, CBD, and CBN and some products were sprays and lotions for external use only.
Interestingly enough, in a CNN interview, “Whoopi Goldberg launches weed startup for women”, Whoopi is getting into the weed business. Actress and comedian Whoopi Goldberg is the cofounder of a new medicinal marijuana startup that’s geared toward providing relief for women during that time of the month. The company is called Whoopi & Maya, after Goldberg and her cofounder Maya Elisabeth, who’s been running medical marijuana company Om Edibles since 2008. The women are launching four products to help relieve period cramps and discomfort. Sort of a “menstrual survival kit,” the products range from edibles, tinctures or liquid extracts, rubs and a bath soak. All are infused with cannabis. From bathtime to snacktime, Whoopi & Maya is a cannabis-infused survival kit for women. “This was all inspired by my own experience from a lifetime of difficult periods and the fact that cannabis was literally the only thing that gave me relief,” Goldberg said in a press release. She has previously professed her love for pot, writing about her relationship with her vape pen for The Cannabist two years ago. Goldberg will serve as chairwoman of the startup, while Elisabeth, who is based in the Bay Area, will be CEO. According to Elisabeth, the products are designed to be “discreet.” The tincture, for instance, can be dropped into any beverage, or placed under the tongue. In the cacao, the cannabis flavor can’t be tasted, said Elisabeth. These two products are psychoactive, meaning they may induce a marijuana high — while the bath soak and rub are not. That doesn’t mean the bath soak isn’t without effect, said Elisabeth. “You’ll be so relaxed, you’ll just go straight to bed,” she said. ‘

What is  CBD (Cannabidiol)?  It is reputed to have many health benefits. According to an article at,  CBD is not likely to make one high and is most desirable to cancer patients. That article is as follows:

What is CBD?

What is CBD?Cannabidiol, CBD Rich CannabisCannabidiol—CBD—is a cannabis compound that has significant medical benefits, but does not make people feel “stoned” and can actually counteract the psychoactivity of THC. The fact that CBD-rich cannabis is non-psychoactive or less psychoactive than THC-dominant strains makes it an appealing option for patients looking for relief from inflammation, pain, anxiety, psychosis, seizures, spasms, and other conditions without disconcerting feelings of lethargy or dysphoria.

Scientific and clinical research—much of it sponsored by the US government—underscores CBD’s potential as a treatment for a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, diabetes, alcoholism, MS, chronic pain, schizophrenia, PTSD, depression, antibiotic-resistant infections, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders. CBD has demonstrable neuroprotective and neurogenic effects, and its anti-cancer properties are currently being investigated at several academic research centers in the United States and elsewhere.

Project CBD responds to inquiries from all over the world. Almost everyone wants to know where to get CBD-rich products and how to use them for maximum benefit. After decades in which only high-THC cannabis was available in North America and beyond, CBD-rich strains and products are now available to medical users.

“CBD-rich” versus “CBD dominant:”By “CBD-rich,” we mean a cannabis strain or product that has equal amounts of CBD and THC, or more CBD than THC (usually at least 4 percent CBD by dry weight.). By “CBD-dominant,” we mean strains or products that are CBD-rich but have very little THC content.

Interestingly enough, publisher/ singer-songwriter, B. Le Grand, said ‘ “We are constantly finding that patients are seeking new ways to consume cannabis and have an insatiable desire to learn more about infused products,” says B. Le Grand, Publisher, Edibles List Magazine.”  She further explained that, ‘ ” The Infused Expo provides cannabis infused product manufacturers with a unique way to showcase their products and expertise, which is why it made perfect sense to partner with our speakers who have a passion for hemp education at their core.” ‘

Furthermore, per Edibles List magazine, actor Eric Roberts said, ‘ “Every infused cannabis product represents the story of the infused product maker who created it. I am thrilled to be apart of Edibles List Magazine’s first ever Infused Expo to help celebrate cannabis and infused product makers,” ‘

Finally, it should be evident that the rush to judgement  is on. The rush as to which edible is the best that is. The marketability of these products will depend on the ingenuity of its proprietors but also now that the judicial leverage has tipped the momentum in the direction of cannabis lovers thus shifting the gears of lassie faire , it is on! All segments of the cannabis, hemp, and medicinal products game are on green light; especially since prop 64, legalizing recreational marijuana consumption,  was approved. All ears not only nationwide but also worldwide, as California, the city of Nature Boy, LA sunshine, arguably the mecca of trendsetting in the world of fashion and lifestyle are wide open.  This INFUSION EXPO showed that yes proprietors are making money selling cannabis products but the initiative to establish their products as medicinal as well as, unlike alcohol, which is totally for merriment, for fun, will create a cash flow via taxes and for the businesses that sells it. The need to educate the masses in the benefits of cannabis’s  components is essential–CBD has the potential to seal the deal as a medicinal element , ideal for self medicating. B. Le Grand’s statement that an insatiable desire for edibles is not an understatement.

Consequently,  Yours truly was given quite a few “galvanized”tasty treats, that day—I never got to go upstairs where all of the panels were being held—- to the tune of ” Some people call me The Space Cowboy”……….I had to rush home, the gravity of my sweet tooth setting upon me like a ton of bricks!. In other words, chomp down on edibles but YOU HAD BETTER DO IT IN MODERATION.——–“If you don’t know now ya know, ya know”……..the late great Nortorious.

I was born in Fountainbleu in Paris France to an army family. My father ,Ruben Smith, and my mother Nancy Smith, worked for the Army and as a school teacher in France, respectively. We are originally from the South. My father’s people from Misissippi and Alabama and my mom’s from South Carolina. I am an avid sports fan and I attended and played sports----football, wresting, and track----- at Bishop England High School, in Charleston, South Carolina; my mom chose both a Catholic high school and an elementary school, Immaculate Conception, for my sister and I. Initially, I wasted a lot of time in school pursuing sports and partying but nevertheless,I went to the College of Charleston, The University of South Carolina, where I majored in Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations, with a minor in Theatre and Speech. I finally graduated from The University of Redlands, in Redlands, CA with a degree in business management. I managed to get into SAG-AFTRA, mostly as an extra, but I have done an occasional speaking stint here and there—CD-ROMs, experimental and industrial films, and voice overs in radio. My most recent endeavor was playing a doctor on "Grey's Anatomy". I like horror, love, thrillers, and I like to read. Weightliftingand jogging are some of my hobbies also. Interestingly enough, my family prepared me for a life on the move, as I have been to every state in The USA except for Alaska and Hawaii. I have an older sister who chose the teaching profession and is doing quite fine. What was i like as a child? Well I tend to think that I existed and flourished within "a culture of hate"--------however South Carolina has ceased and desisted with both "The jim Crow Laws' and flying the Confederate Flag------------I witnessed "colored only" bathrooms, and was in establishments where the Klan showed up. I stayed at hotels where my family and I found pounds of raw CHITTERLINS---hogs guts----- at our doorstep!! But don't get me wrong, as despite these ugly truths about the South, I grew up with some very cool whites, mexicans, Filipino's and other races. But it is what it is. It has Metamorphosized into being a cultural and real estate melting pot, as many from other states are recently flocking there for the cheaper home prices, very stable, safer lifestyle and "bible belt" mentality, and affordable education. I too have Metamorphosized , as I am not the militant little athletic, and partying freak I used to be and have settled into writing for Cold Heat News and assisting We Care for Humanity with their charitable functions. Consequently, I am pretty much a normal army brat who has realized that life is what you make it and people and things are subject to change. So change with life and let by gones be by gones. My dad has since passed away, and my mom and sister and most of my cousins are still alive, but their positive, significant influence, along with the impact my elementary and high school friends have had on me continues on;infact, I believe, where it not for my childhood friends, my high school football Coach Jack Cantey and occasional teenage battles with my dad, I would have become a gang member! Thus my personal manifesto is, Live hard, party when it is time, and utilize both education, and Love for God, and know that FAMILY AND FRIENDS are most important; They're one's conduit for a viable and happy life. ALSO, A FRIEND IN NEED IS A FRIEND---NOT A "FAIR WEATHER"------INDEED.
